Fox

My rescue cat

A customer contacted me to say she had a possible pregnant stray in the garden and would I come to take a look, as just a couple of roads away from our house. They had the most beautiful skinny little creature but she had a slight belly bulge and sadly I had to agree that she was most probably pregnant.

My husband and I popped her in a carrier and brought her home to our conservatory.... She was super friendly and an absolute sweetie from the start! A quick vet visit and it was established she was 'expecting'... Sooooo..... We set up a birthing box and a camera focused on the box to wait for the big day. She was starving hungry and so skinny that we assumed she was quite near the start of her pregnancy and that we had a wait on our hands.... Nope.... Out I walked into the conservatory a few days later to find 2 black jelly beans! Not laying in the perfect birthing box but squidged on a cat bed, under a chair, with a super furry looking old blanket over it!

Now I've never been at a birth before so was in a bit of an excited panic.. Not quite knowing what to expect and also worried in case anything was to go wrong. I sat next to mummy cat - and waited... No idea if 2 was the magic number or whether I would see any more bubbas appear. Not long after she popped out number 3 and number 4. Absolutely magical. I will never forget it. Within minutes they were all cleaned up and attached to their mum, no intervention from me. She was the most perfect mummy ever.

Now the next few weeks were so amazingly wonderful - Watching the bubbas grow, their little eyes open, suckling on their mum, eyes changing colour, moving onto solids, playing, being silly, crashing into everything.... I photo'd them from day 1 up until when they went off to their new homes. I really can't explain what an experience and an honour it was to help this poor little skinny stray and her furry family.

It became clear as the little ones grew that mummy was a stunner - friendly, gorgeous temperament and so unbelievably grateful. She really showed how happy she was and how she loved this new life.... She stayed.... How could she not?! I called her Fox.

It also became clear that we were getting attached to one of her babies... a furry little silly creature that was a complete scatter brain with the biggest heart you can imagine... Fox loved her, we loved her..... River was destined to be part of our ever expanding family!

Now by this point splitting up this family unit was going to be challenging but common sense had to kick in and I needed to know they were all going to be safe, loved and in their 'forever' homes.... Moo went to my mum , Tillie went to live with one of my long term customer's (and to meet her new playmate, a gorgeous kitty called Casper) and Vinnie went to live with another family, who I have cat sit for years (and to meet Halo & Cleo, his new adopted kitty family).
